Let's Change the Rules!
I think we would all agree that the office of United States Senator is an honorable and envied position. It’s a job that requires more than a little knowledge in many areas. I would think that a great deal of reading would be required on the part of a senator to make intelligent decisions on important matters. Of course, this requires time, and is one reason we pay our senators well. All of this I understand. What I don’t understand is how our three major candidates for president can remain in the senate while campaigning energetically for the office of president of the United States. As we have heard and read in the news, campaigning for president is a full time job, requiring constant travel and great preparation.
I suggest that when one becomes a serious candidate for president, he/she should leave his senate post. If the job of senator is important, let’s have senators who are present for votes and who take the position seriously. What do you think?
