Putting the spotlight where it belongs!

As is true with most people, I was saddened to hear about Michael Vick’s activities with dog fighting and the killing of animals. There’s no excuse for the cruelty he and other members of his group exhibited toward these animals. The outcry and publicity against Vick is justified and understandable.

What I don’t understand however, is the lack of attention other stories which, to me, are more important are receiving. For example, how many times have we read or heard of an athlete striking and injuring a wife or girl friend? Over and over, we have one human being mistreating another. These unfortunate crimes deserve attention. When appropriate, punishment should be administered; but more important, education should be in place to help prevent these terrible crimes against women. Evidently, the college and professional teams involved will not take a stand until pressured by the public. Everyone has an obligation to speak out against these crimes. Are we as sports fans fearful of disciplining a good player who is guilty of a crime against women? Is the success of our team that important to us? I hope and pray that it is not!
