Daylight Saving Time:

I’m proud and happy to tell you, dear reader, that I am a resident of Arizona! Yes, we do have an occasional corrupt governor; yes, we do have temperatures reaching 115 in the summertime. We also have standard time all year long! I can think of few thing less productive than daylight saving time! Is it really too much trouble for people to adjust their personal schedule to enjoy activities an hour earlier or later as the case might be?

Work for the Blind

Since I was born without sight, finding a job has always been a challenge and a concern for me. I must add however that I have always had a job, and considered this a great blessing. The challenge comes in selling the employer on the idea of hiring a person without sight. I believe that many employers are hesitant to bring up questions they might have; therefore, the interview process wouldn’t be open and honest. For this reason, after a few failed interviews, I brought up the questions myself. After that, I was quite successful.

It concerns me that so many highly qualified blind workers are still without jobs. I wish that a job fair could be held; where members of industry could meet and talk with blind people who have been successful in the work place. It would be a joy for all involved to make a difference in the lives of those who need help.

Chicago White Sox and Organ Music

When it comes to baseball, I’m usually a National League fan. This year however, I’m really pulling for the Chicago White Sox. As an organist, I am a great fan of Nancy Faust, the organist for Chicago.

Some years ago, I had the pleasure of sitting in for Nancy for several White Sox games. My memories of one of those game are quite vivid. It was a night game, and the temperature was 37 degrees. I could barely move my fingers, let alone play a rapid passage on the organ.

I also substituted for the organist with the Chicago Cubs. Maybe I’ll share some of those memories one day; but for now, go White Sox!

About the Chicago Cubs:

I don't blame the Cub fans for feeling envy toward Florida; after all, they now have a good manager. The Cubs meanwhile are stuck with Dusty Baker. He's a man who allows a three-year-old child to run on the field during a game. (the world series, no less) O well, wait 'til next year!

This I find annoying!

I offer another thought about travel. Yesterday, we flew from Chicago to phoenix. Every seat was taken. One passenger decided to apply her perfume or cologne with a garden hose; at least, that's how it seemed. Can you imagine, sitting for nearly four hours with that stench? I hope next time, she'll dab it on.

Thoughts on travel:

Have you noticed that travel isn't what it used to be? I can't imagine taking a short trip by air when it's possible to go by car. Even with the price of fuel, I think it's much easier on the nerves not to have the hassle of going through airport security.
