Another Birthday!

For me, another birthday has come and gone. Unlike many people, I really love my birthday. The primary reason is that I hear from so many thoughtful people who extend their birthday wishes to me. It’s great to find out how they are and what they are doing. Some kind and generous souls even present me with gifts; I must confess, I love those, too.

This year, the greatest gift was given by our good and generous God. He has given me the gift of time. The intriguing part, is that I don’t know if it will be one day or twenty years. Whatever it is, I hope I will use that time to be kinder and more thoughtful toward others. A birthday is a great time to take inventory; after doing this, it dawned on me how fortunate I am to have this gift of time. Thanks to dear family members and friends, it will be an enjoyable time for me.

My Favorite Month!

I believe that April is my favorite month of the year. My reasons are as varied as the flowers many people plant this time of the year.

First, there’s the best reason of all; that is, Easter. What a day of hope and joy.

The other reasons aren’t nearly so profound. First, there’s my birthday. I used to tell my wife Shirley how many wonderful people were born in April; but then, she got hold of a list of really terrible people who were born in April. Folks such as Hitler, just to give you one example. I no longer tell her how wonderful the children of April are.

Then there’s the beginning of the baseball season. It’s so great to go to a game and hear the crack of the bat, and to enjoy all that a spring day has to offer. Then there’s the optimism all fans possess this time of year. Even though we are probably just a week away from elimination, even the Diamondback fans are optimistic.
